Our Project: The lesson began with a brief lesson on the history pop art, specifically Andy Warhol's iconic pieces. The color wheel was emphasized as well as complementary color choices and how to use them. A demo was then given on how to draw the basic shape of the candy of the students choice, and then how to use acrylic paint to fill in the inside and background. Essential Understanding:
Students will be able to:
Students chose different methods of filling the page, some students felt more comfortable drawing all of the candies before painting them to ensure that they looked very similar such as the middle picture. This student used a very similar technique of drawing last lesson, using rulers and erasing the thick lines they drew if the drawing was not perfect, this time however the student was much more comfortable weilding a paintbrush. Other students brought in previous art experience and wanted to use tools such as tracing paper to make each box look the same such as the student in the first picture. Yet others went with each box, creating variety and painting as they went. A group of students at a table discovered that they could make the colors pink and lavender if they mixed red and blue or red and white, the students began gaining inspiration from one anothers color choices, and after saying "I really like that! How did you make that?" they taught each other how to mix certain colors. Another student was inspired from her brother and the college that he went to and chose to mainly paint with yellow and blue which were his school colors. Certain students found it very helpful when drawing to break up the image into sections such as "main body" and "wrapper edge", while others used a very similar technique of breaking the image into distinct shapes like circles, rectangles, and triangles.
